Sergeant Kinderman Takes to the Skies on Prestigious Gliding Scholarship

Updated: 5 hours ago

The skies are calling for Sgt Kinderman, who has been selected for one of the most sought-after opportunities available within the RAF Air Cadets – the Air Cadet Gliding Scholarship at RAF Little Rissington.

Awarded to only a small number of cadets each year, the scholarship offers an incredible chance to develop advanced aviation knowledge and practical flying skills under expert instruction. Selection is highly competitive, making this a fantastic achievement and a testament to Sgt Kinderman’s commitment, enthusiasm and hard work.

The opening days of the course have been packed with learning. After refreshing his knowledge of gliding operations, Sgt Kinderman experienced the effects of a stall and recovery, practised landing techniques, and completed ground training covering launch procedures, take-offs and landings. He has already progressed to conducting elements of the launch and landing sequence unaided – a significant milestone so early in the scholarship.

Whilst lightning storms unfortunately brought flying activities to an early close on one of the days, the experience was no less inspiring, with aircraft traffic passing overhead en route to RAF Brize Norton and RAF Fairford providing an added reminder of the exciting world of aviation.

Sgt Kinderman continues to enjoy every moment of the course and is looking forward to developing his skills further as the scholarship progresses.

This is just one example of the extraordinary opportunities available through the RAF Air Cadets. From flying and gliding to leadership, adventure training and international exchanges, cadets are given experiences that challenge them, build confidence and create memories that last a lifetime.

Everyone at 1051 (Dartford) Squadron wishes Sgt Kinderman the very best as he continues his scholarship, and we look forward to sharing further updates on his progress in the weeks ahead.
