Cadet Opportunities at 1051

Flying & Gliding

There are incredible opportunities for cadets at 1051 to take to the skies.

From experiencing the thrill of silent flight in a Viking T1 glider, to taking the controls of a powered aircraft, and even flying in operational RAF aircraft—our cadets get hands-on aviation experiences few others can match.

For those who want to go further, Flying and Gliding Scholarships offer the chance to develop real flying skills and take the next step in their aviation journey.

Fieldcraft & Shooting

At 1051, cadets develop precision, focus, and resilience through archery and fieldcraft.

Fieldcraft is a key part of training, introducing skills such as camouflage, concealment, movement, observation, and teamwork in outdoor environments.

While shooting is not regularly delivered on the Squadron, cadets can access opportunities through Wing activities, progressing through a structured syllabus at longer ranges.

Sports

1051 competes across a wide range of sports throughout the year, including Athletics, Netball, Football, Rugby, Hockey, Swimming, and Cross Country.

Cadets who excel have the opportunity to represent Kent Wing—and even progress to Regional and National competitions.

Adventure Training

Adventure training is a key part of life at 1051, giving cadets the chance to push themselves beyond their comfort zone.

From mountain biking and paddle boarding to orienteering and other outdoor challenges, cadets develop confidence, resilience, and teamwork in exciting environments.

These activities often take place on camps across the UK, including locations such as North Wales and the Lake District, offering unforgettable experiences in some of the country’s best outdoor settings.

Drill & Parades

Precision. Discipline. Pride.

Drill is a core part of life at 1051, developing confidence, teamwork, and attention to detail. Cadets learn to move and operate as one, building skills that carry into every aspect of cadet life.

Our cadets proudly represent the Squadron at major public events, including the Battle of Britain Parade and Remembrance Day—parading in front of the community with professionalism and respect.

Gain Qualifications

Cadets at 1051 have the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications alongside their time on the Squadron.

From leadership and teamwork awards to first aid, aviation studies, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, and CVQO qualifications, our training programme is designed to build skills that last a lifetime.

These recognised qualifications support personal development while also strengthening college, university, and career applications.
