  • How do I join?
If you are interested in joining register your interest by emailing 1051@rafac.mod.gov.uk and you will be added to the waiting list. You will then be invited to the squadron where you will be given a guided tour with your parent or guardian by a serving cadet and receive a persentation about us where you have the opportunity to ask any questions. This lasts for approx 15-20minutes.
  • How old do I need to be?
If you are between 12 (in school year 8) and 17 years old you are eligible to join the Air Training Corps.
  • When do you meet?
There are two parade nights each week on a Tuesday and Thursday, don’t worry if you cannot make them every night we’re flexible! We are only closed for a two week period over the Christmas break. We do however ask that you attend two compulsory parades each year, Remembrance Sunday (November) andBattle of Britain (September). The dates of these will be advertised in advance.
  • How much does it cost?
We have a subscription fee of £12 per month, this covers uniform costs and the day-to-day running of the squadron. Upon joining a fee of £20 is required. This will pay for a cadet’s first month of subs and a Squadron Polo Shirt which is required for sports, you can also wear this whilst you are waiting for uniform. You will also need to purchase parade shoes, socks and the MTP (camoflauge) uniform but we will advise you when you need to buy these items. The polo shirt does not need to be returned when you leave us.
  • Do I have to pay for my uniform?
RAF ‘blue’ uniform is provided free of charge. You will need to buy your own parade shoes and combat clothing (a list of what is required will be provided to you).
  • Do I need to be physically fit to join?
There is no fitness test to enter, however there are sports nights built into our training programme so a minimal fitness level is required.
  • I have a lot of school work - do I need to come up twice a week?
We do not ask cadets to attend every parade night as we recognise the importance that academic studies take priority over the squadron. All we ask is to be kept informed so that we know they have not left the squadron. As and when required we allow cadets to take breaks from the squadron so that they can focus on their studies.
  • What if I want to leave?
Cadets are free to leave the Squadron at any time. We request all uniform is returned so that it may be reissued to other cadets and that we are informed at the earliest opportunity so that we can update our records. This is especially important as the subscriptions direct debit will need to be cancelled.
